Bidding Etiquette
Stop Cards
Whilst stop cards themselves are gone the non use of stop cards does not remove the
requirement for a Player to wait 8 to 10 seconds before bidding if there has been a jump by
his/her Right Hand opponent. The Bidder should use the 8 to 10 seconds to inquire about the bid
..(if they need to know) or just to consider their hand.
This prevents any inference from whether there is a pause or not - because there should always
be a pause
LAW 20. Review & explanation of Calls
Requesting an explanation - Any player is entitled to ask about a bid even if they have no
intention to bid, however a player may not ask about a call if his intention is to induce a mistaken
explanation or for the benefit of their partners. The laws also prohibit asking for the benefit of
partner. Therefore a player should not ask about a call if he already knows the opponent’s
agreement. Players also need to be aware that the content & manner of their questions may
potentially create "Unauthorised Information" even when the questions themselves are legal.
